Toolkit of methods for the systematic verification of design solutions

The product development process (PDP) can be seen as a process of knowledge generation. Various knowledge artefacts contribute during the process to increase the degree of maturity of the product and the knowledge about it. Steps in the process to verify the fulfillment of product requirements and the existence of its characteristic properties are essential to the success of a development project. Verification can be carried out at different times and in different ways and it is increasingly supported by simulation.

The requirements for the implementation of a holistic approach for product verification are manifold: In order to make the decision for the application of a specific method or combination of methods, it must be analyzed whether the method or methods match the situational goals, the available data, and resources as well as the required quality. However, expert knowledge on modeling, computation, analysis, and assessment is needed for the actual implementation of verification steps. The overall goal of this subproject is to provide the user with a toolkit of methods in the form of a knowledge-based framework, which enables the generation of an individual, systematic approach for product verification using the innovative methods developed in the project consortium. The basis is the identification of knowledge elements and knowledge needs in the context of product and process simulations during the PDP. The project acts as a bridge between the handled problems and the solutions in the consortium, the applicability of which is broken down in terms of respective boundary conditions.
